Hello all, new to the site and this is my first PC build.

2 Questions:

is 700w enough?

i7 950 (no OC)
GTX460 768mb (single)
Asus Sabertooth x58 mobo
1 SSD and 1 7200rpm
3x4GB DDR3 1600 ram
DVD drive

is OCZ Modstream a good PSU?

Heard mostly good from Newegg

Cheers

OCZ is a good PSU, you could look into the Corsairs modular 80plus GOLD series PSU, they're good value and keeps your bills down. Can't go wrong with it.

2 answer your first question - 700W from what manufacturer? it could be an el cheapo PSU and bow up everything inside your case. If its a seasonic, still good enough - but post back here with its details for us to be sure.

BTW , WELCOME to the forums newcomer!

I would say that 700 W is overkill. A good 80+ (preferably Silver and up) 500-550 W PSU should be enough. I recommend a Corsair PSU because I have one and is very quiet, Seasonic PSUs are even better, but they're a little more expensive, at least where I live.

A 700W isn't overkill especially when:

1| you'll look down a sli/crossfire barrel
2| you plan to keep your PSU inside the rig while the innards change with new tech
3| you think that, apart from the case , the PSU should last you a few builds
4| your thinking of OC'ing down the line

i won't mention capacitor aging here - though that is another point you can add

That power supply is fine if you already have it.. otherwise dont purchase it.

its mediocre and overpriced.

for that build a 450watt good brand psu is enough.

I would recommend something in the 500W 550W range, 700W if you plan on SLI

I already bought the OCZ Modstream (Bundle deal) and have seen some mixed reviews on modstream PSU's, should I look to a different PSU?

Lutflj, are they really that bad?

@ williedia - you've bought it so go ahead with your build/upgrade.

It's pointless to get it off your hands. It would be a bad choice if you we're GOING to get it and only then would we've swayyed you towards a seasonic or a corsair PSU.
