Need AM3 MOBO with DDR2 Slots compatible w/ Phenom II X4 955

I recently got a quadcore Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHz (TDP of 125W) but my current AM2/AM2+ mobo's TDP wattage isn't powerful enough to run it at its full potential. The mobo can only handle up to 75W TDP so that isn't good.

My intention is to play a certain CPU-intensive videogame without framerate stutter (I took care of the GPU part already).

So now I need an Micro ATX AM3 mobo with DDR2 slots because I want to keep using my DDR2 RAM, but it has to be able to seamlessly use the CPU. I would like some suggestions.

RAM: 4GB (two DDR2 sticks, one is 1066 and the other is 800.)
Power supply: Orion 585w
Intended CPU: Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz, TDP 125w

My current question is about this

This mobo has Phenom II X6 support but I will be using Phenom II X4 instead. Can it still handle the X4 at full 125w TDP without issues?

The details say nothing about max TDP, it just says "Phenom II X6 6-Core CPU Ready" and "Supports UCC feature (Unlock CPU Core)". I don't like taking risks when I don't know enough info.

I'd really appreciate guidance on this one, thanks : )

  1. I do not see your CPU on the support list for the board, it shows that it supports a 945 but I do not see the 955 on there.
  2. Ok, can't use that one then.

    Any good recommendations?

  4. hey... get AM3+ for future you can easy upgrade BD .. and Now DDR3 is very cheap.
  5. Also what kind of price range are you trying to stay in if any ? henydiah is right DDR3 would not cost to much and offer more performance and give you better options for the motherboard. :)
