Help! Hitachi HDD failure

I recently lended my hitachi deskstar 250G 3GB to a friend of mine in order to test out if his mother has a problem, the thing is he gave it back to me earlier today and when I plug it , it gives weird clicking noise and the bios wont recognize the Hdd

Please help me is mt hdd fine or do i have to buy a new one and what might have caused this

Your friend must have put a magnet to it.
Your hard drive is done, finished, time to buy a new one.
