Requirement to upgrade RAM?

Hey everyone,

As of right now I have 4 GB of RAM installed on my motherboard (2x2gb sticks)

I am going to upgrade soon, I am wondering if I can do this.

CHOICE A:

SLOT 1: PNY 2GB
SLOT 2: PNY 2GB
-----------------------Dual channel memory
SLOT 3: (other company brand) 4GB
SLOT 4: (Other company brand) 4GB


OR

CHOICE B:

SLOT 1: PNY 2 GB
SLOT 2: PNY 2 GB
------------------------Dual channel memory
SLOT 3: PNY 4 GB stick
SLOT 4: PNY 4 GB stick


CHOICE 3:
Or do I have to use PNY 2 GB sticks on my 3rd and 4th slot in order to work?



MY MOBO can handle 16 GB MAX. And I want 12 GB :O

ASROCK M3a770de MOBO, AMD based.

It would be easier to answer your question if you told us a bit more about your motherboard (I presume it's an AMD based system) and the part number of each memory kit. Using very similar or identical PNY kits is less risky.
