1394 net adapter

I have a modem and a router that I use for my laptop. Everything worked fine for a while - now I get the message "a network cable is unplugged" and lose my internet connection all the time. I don't know how to fix this. My network connections show a 1394 net adapter and a local area connection - but enabled (I think I might have done that - trying to fix this problem - or it may have always been that way). Can anyone help me fix this? How do I get my connection to say connected?

Thanks for any help. I'm not very computer savvy - so please be 'simple' with answers.

1394 is your Firewire connector.

Go Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and see if the actual Network adapter is present or yellow flagged.

If necessary reload driver for Network Adapter -- if no joy just buy a new external one -- USB or PCMCIA.
