Hi All,

Im joseph from India, Ive been using Intel D845GLVA mobo and a pentium- 4 1.7GHz processor and nvidia geforce FX 5200(128mb) for almost 7 years now(pretty Old) and yesterday the motherboard died.Im frustrated with all the Low settings i used to play games and now is the time to move on finally.. :)

So I decided to upgrade, Ill be using the system mostly for Gaming, I have a ACER A1702W (17") Monitor and the maximum resolution on it is 1440 x 900, Im not planning to upgrade it until a year, so below is the list I'm looking for..pls help me choosing them and the best price for them..

->i5 - 760 processor

->Asus P7P55D motherboard

->A good 2x2GB RAM (Pls suggest which one is best?)

DDR3 - 1333- 7-7-7-20

or

DDR3 - 1600 - 8-8-8-24

->HD 5770 or GTX 460 ? (pls suggest best one for my resolution)

->Seagate 1 TB Hard disk ?

->Power supply (pls suggest which one and how much watts i need)

->Cabinet ?

->Logitech G1 Gaming Desktop(Mice + keyboard) ?

Pls suggest me where to get these products cheap, I mean can I get it through online from newegg without shipping charge? Bcoz here in India prices are damn high, for example hd 5770 is $ 210 and GTX 460 (1GB) is $315 in retail shops as of today..

Pls help me out guys..thanks for your help in advance..

Good options:
Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz and ASUS P7P55D-E motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE Deneb 3.2GHz and ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 motherboard

RAM: DDR3 1333 7-7-7-20 is roughly equal in performance to DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24; either one is OK
HDD: 500GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 / Seagate 7200.12 or WD Caviar Black WD5001AALS are good.
DVD Burner: Any
Cabinet: any 'gaming case' with at least 2 120mm fans. Example: Antec Three Hundred.

Power Supply: Mostly depends on the video card you choose. For exmaple: HD 5770 or GTX 460: 450W high quality PSU or 550W 'average' PSU is about right.

Video card: THG: Best Graphics Cards For The Money: August 2010 explains how to match your video card to your future new monitor resolution.

NewEgg does not ship internationally.
TigerDirect.com will talk with you about international shipping. It would be better to find a local source of supply.

Hi,

Tomorrow ill be going to the shop to get the above mentioned parts for my PC, but suddenly i read somewhere that Hd5770 is an overkill for my monitor ACER 1702W with maximum resoultion of 1440 x 900..Should i have to look for lower graphics card then? If so can you guys pls suggest me good card?

Also Is it possible to change to next resolution like 1680 x 1050 in my monitor when playing games even though it says max res is 1440 x 900? as the hd 5770 supports up to 2560 x 1600 right? will the monitor support it or it will go "Out of sync" ?

Below is my monitor spec page..

http://www.gadgetsguru.in/acer-al-1702w-series-17%27%27lcd-monitor-price-specification-buy-india-4798.aspx

The reason i dont wanna lose this monitor is it has 16:10 ratio where nowadays its hard to find..all are 16:9..

Also I believe gaming in 16:10 is better than 16:9 right?

And Is there any noticeable difference between 1680 x 1050 and 1440 x 900?

If so I can think of getting new monitor..

Pls help me out guys, im totally confused..dont wanna spend much on which im not benefitting..thanks for you help..

If you are going to be using a monitor that small then you absolutely dont need a strong video card like that all. You can use the one i have which is a xfx 9800gt and be just fine. A 5770 or 460 gtx would go to waste on a monitor that small

yea i agree no such thing as to much video card 5770 460 would be good choices
your monitor won't display anything over max resolution those cards aren't top of the line but are good cards also have option to add another later
for crossfire better to spend a couple extra bucks now then not be satisfied with a lesseer card
