So i upgraded my graphics card from a GeForce 8800 GTS, to a GeForce 470 GTX. The later requires 2 6-pin connections from the PSU.

My power supply, had a cable that had a 6 pin connection on it, and then another 6 pin that branched off from it. So i plugged them both in. No Dice, didn't work. System just gave me a long beep, and nadda on the screen.

It wasn't until i had two separate cables that had 6-pin connections run the GPU that it turned on.

Why couldn't i run the card the first way?

Solution

It would work for a lower power cards 2x 9600GT in SLI as an example.
