Need A Card That wont fry my 250w stock psu

I have a crappy low hp desk top that only has a 250w psu and no video card just the integrated video on the motherboard and a 2.8g duo core athlon processer. I am building a mid range gaming cpu but I need a card to tide me over until I can get all the parts for it. I would like to be able to run most games on high setting at low resolution with out blowing the stock psu. is there anything cheap that can do that for me?

  1. You want to run most games at high settings? You're going to need to upgrade your PSU man.... Its not a big deal and will be worth it.

You MIGHT be able to handle a 4650 if you have enough amps on the 12v rail. What PSU do you have? Name and all that good stuff (or if the sticker on it tells you how many amps you have on the 12v rail...)

opened up the case and gave it a peek most of it was in chinese. The brand appears to be lite on, and it said

    +5v and +3.3v Rails 165w max
    +12v and + 5v rails 218w max

thats the most I could get off of it

also I would upgrade the psu, but I am spending most my money on parts for the new system so the least amount off money I can spend to get me by till then the better.
I figure I may have to just give in and upgrade the psu but I would like to know if there is anything it can run.
  3. I kind of need to know the amps, but the 4650 should be able to run on it.

What is the HP desktop? Regular tower right? Not slim case or anything like that.

    What is your budget?

    50-70 bucks

and the its the lowest end pavilion available.
  5. You're not going to be able to get a GPU that can run most games at high settings for 70 dollars, and can still run on that PSU.

figured as much thank's for the help though
  7. You can get a low end card for about 60 dollars that will run games on medium settings and work on that PSU though.
  8. You can run a HD5570 on that PSU. It should run a lot of your games at lower resolutions.
  9. i would also recommend a 5570 on a 250w psu. it only uses 42w max whereas the 4650 has a max of 48w.
  10. I aggree with Jtt283. But don't expect to be able to overclock or anything, and really, don't expect any eyecandy =/
