AMD has had the same latching, like, forever, man.

Even old Opty HSFs from 939/940 will do AM2, AM2+, AM3, and AM3+ when it rolls. It wouldn't surprise me if some SocketA HSFs would work with the right latch arm.

the box says it's compatible w/ amd but it needs adaptor?

I've used older/different versions and they've always had the latch included.

The photo on the Egg shows the AM2/AM3 latch included with the S1283.



It does not look as if they offer a separate AMD AM2/AM3 adapter kit for sale -- only an Intel LGA1366/LGA1156. If you purchased a retail S1283 and did not receive the AM2/AM3 latch you should notify the vendor or return the product.
