Hello,
I just hooked up a vertex4 ssd as an external drive via a 6Gb/s esata enclosure going to 6Gbps eSATA controller card from startech and am only gtting a write speed of 119 MB/s according to AS SSD Benchmark. This seems way lower than it should be. I need help!

Depends what type of slot the card is fitted into. It's that card-slot specification which is determining the transfer speed.

I mentioned above that the slot is x1 PCI Express. Which my understanding should top out at 200 MB/s.

Is the read speed any higher?

Is the speed any higher if you connect the SSD internally?

I don't have a SATA III connection on my motherboard so connecting it to PCIexpress is my fastest option.

SATA 1 supports 150MB/s, so it will be faster than your current speed.
