This will be the first attempt at building my own pc. I've tried to do a lot of research on all of the components, paying special attention to the "bang for the buck". I've listed out everything below. I'm planning to buy everything through newegg.com so if you have any suggestions (which I welcome whole-heartedly) it would be great if you could use that site. My goal for this pc is a work/game computer. If you see anything that wouldn't be compatible or isn't worth the money or any suggestions at all, please tell me!

(I already have a mouse.)

It would be nice to keep it under or fairly close to $1000. I don't care too much about sound, graphics are more important to me. Aesthetics doesn't matter too much (especially for the case). Functionality > aesthetics in my opinion, thank you in advance!

Solution
You're going to want a better GPU. If anything, I'd change that.

How about something like this? Just somethign to look at, don't take it to heart. Its got a faster CPU, bigger HDD, much better GPU, better PSU. Higher resolution monitor.

You would have to use these two promo codes.
EMCYWPZ27,XFXPOWER

With the promo codes and mail in rebate it would be.. roughly 940 dollars.

Thanks for the suggestions! Would the graphics card that you chose (the GeForce GTX 460) be limited by the processor that I chose (Athlon II x4 630)? I don't want to drop the money for a really nice graphics card and it be limited because the processor couldn't keep up.

Whoa way too pricey fro just a Propus + 9800GT @@
