my computer 450-Watt Power Supply 8gb of ddr2 ram AMD pehnom 9650 quad core at 2.3Ghz ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard - AMD 880GX 600gb western digiial hd 1 dvd/cd drive and I want to add a evga 9800gtx can i do that with a 450 psu or do i need a bigger one
Depends on the 450W PSU, what make and model is it? How many amps does it have on its 12V rails? Not all PSUs were created equal, a corsair 450VX can do it, the 450W raidmax with two fans, probably not a good idea.
If this is a generic psu that came with a case you will probably get 6months to 2 years out of it.
You really want something putting out at least 35-40 amps on the 12v rail.
Most generics state 30 and barely manage that. You will run your system but you will kill your psu eventually possibly taking out other components in the process.
