Hello, hoping somebody here can help me.

I have a hard drive from my old PC (XP) and am trying to get some files off it. I've installed it in an external enclosure and connected it to my new PC (Win7) via USB, but I am only able to see the HP_RECOVERY partition, which was assigned as the D: drive on the old machine. I cannot find a way to view the OS partition (C: ) which is where the files I'd like to retrieve are located.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Does the C: partition show up in Disk Management?

Can you see it with Partition Find and Mount?

you can go to Windows disk management to view more details of that partition. BTW the problem may caused by the Windows do not support boot from external hard drive. So I think the problem maybe that we you connect this disk the Windows automatically remove that partition drive letter. So you can go to disk management to assign a drive letter or use 3rd party partition software, such as AOMEI Partition Assistant to fix the problem.
