Help - Older System - What to Upgrade next

Last response: in Systems

I have slightly older system and am stuck on what to upgrade.

My cpu is a Phenom x3 8750 Black Editon
My video cards are a pair of 9800 GT (512) in SLI and nforce 980a/780a running physics off the mother board
My motherboard is a ASUS M4N82 Deluxe

I do some gaming (FPS) and do a decent amount of encoding (MP4)

I was going to pull the trigger and get a 460 gt but am now having second thoughts and thought a CPU upgrade might be a better idea (maybe x6 or a higher end x4).

Any help would be great

I would suggest both as an upgrade.

te 980a can handle any current amd chip.

I'd suggest the 460 and an Athlon II x4 if you can swing the extra $100.

The CPU should come first the 2 x 9800GT is still powerful.

Out of the top of my head the 460 is not much better than two 9800 GT in SLI. IMO you should aim at least for a HD 5850 for your GPU upgrade or wait for the cheaper GTX440/450 and get two of those.

The CPU is decent, I would postpone the upgrade till the end of the year, the prices will go down and some new stuff will show up.
