Dell Inspiron 3800 + Samsung LCD

This is driving me nuts!!
Everytime I boot up my Dell Inspiron 3800 which I have just attached to
my Samsung 17" TFT-LCD(Orion 1770A),it starts up at 1024x768 pixels.
It's fine once I have been to the Display Properties Panel and changed
it to 1280x1024 pixels . I don't remember a driver coming with the
screen when I first bought it so I downloaded the driver from Orion and
followed the instructions to install the driver for the 17" screen.
Sadly it still continues to start up at the lower resolution. Any ideas
anybody PLEASE?
