I am building a Sandy Bridge system. Will it be possible to use the existing DDR3 ram from my HP computer (it's @1033 mhz, not sure what the timings are). It's off-brand, so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be overclockable. However, this isn't an issue, I'm not going to OC my RAM since it would not yield any performance benefits for what I'll be using the system for. Does it matter what ram I use (so long as it's DDR3)?

Do you mean 1333MHz? Its ok then. You can use it.

edit: actually you also have to confirm that it runs at the correct voltage. So install cpu-z (freeware, google it) or something similar on the HP and check that the RAM modules run at either 1.5v or 1.65v. There are some older DDR3 modules that run at higher voltage and these won't work on your new system.

It's around 1000 Mhz (don't remember the exact value, may have been 1066Mhz...all I know is that it's a standard speed around 1000). I'll look up the ram voltage for now, my computer is not currently operational :p. Hopefully 1066Mhz will work?
