My samsung G2 portable 500GB can not be detected on my laptop

It may just need a drive letter manually assigning to it as Windows sometimes fails to do that with external hard drives:

Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management

In the bottom-left panel, find the horizontal ribbon which relates to the Samsung external drive (it might say "Raw" and it will have no drive-letter).

Right-click that ribbon and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths"
Click "Add" and choose a letter.
Click 'OK'

With any luck the ribbon text will change to show the drive's actual name and it's letter.
It should then be visible in Windows Explorer.
