Power supply question

Hi,i am going to get new parts for my computer and i want to know if it will work on my CoolerMaster Real Power 620W PSU the PSU has three +12V rails whit 19 amps on each of them,and it has a +3.3V whit 25 amps,and a +5.0V rail whit 25 amps.


Intel Core I7 930 2.8GHZ 8MB LVL 3 Cache.

XFX GeForce 260GTX Core 216 one graphics card.

Corsair Dominator DDR3 3X2GB 1600MHZ Memorys total (6GB) TRI Channel

INTEL ATX X58 LGA1366 FSB1600 DDR3 RAID,Motherboard


when i buy those stuff i wont have any money left to buy a new psu so im really worried if it will work or not.

The CM 620 will provide around 48 amps at 12 volts. That is plenty for your system if the PSU is working properly.

You can sort of check the PSU. Try to borrow a known good PSU of similar rating. Next, try to borrow a PSU tester. If you cannot do that, use a DMM to measure the voltages. Measure between the colored wires and either chassis ground or the black wires. Yellow wires should be 12 volts. Red wires: +5 volts, orange wires: +3.3 volts, blue wire : -12 volts, violet wire: 5 volts always on. Tolerances are +/- 5% except for the -12 volts which is +/- 10%.

The gray wire is really important. It should go from 0 to +5 volts when you turn the PSU on with the case switch. CPU needs this signal to boot.

You can turn on the PSU by completely disconnecting the PSU and using a paperclip or jumper wire to short the green wire to one of the neighboring black wires.

This checks the PSU under no load conditions, so it is not completely reliable. But if it can not pass this, it is dead. Then repeat the checks with the PSU plugged into the computer to put a load on the PSU.

u mean the 48 amps are gonna be taken away from the THREE 12V 19 amps? means 19+19+19 is 57 amps total on the +12V ones?,if u say 48 amps taken means 57-48= leaves me 9 amps? and how much does the 8pin cpu connector consume amps? becouse when i buy the mobo it will need 8 pin connector to it,my psu is working properly never overheated never shutted down i am using it for almost 7 months for now,it also has ALL the cable connectors etc for all the videocards motherboards i need so i think its a good quality psu.

Your power supply can't output the sum of it's rails ( 57 amps @ 12v = 684 watts )
Read the label, the combined ouput for the 12v rails is 516 watts ( 43 amps )
Still plenty of power for your specs.

but the other guy said the parts i am buying will use 48 amps and ur saying it has 43 amps so its less? means it will still work? how?

Your components won't use anywhere near 48 amps.
I have basically the same specs with some overclocking involved, when running the power viruses ( Prime and Furmark ) the total load on the psu is around 440 watts, gaming only uses around 360w.

thank you,but i also have coolermaster HAF922 case and i got one 200mm,top fan one 200mm side fan, one 200mm front fan,one 120mm back fan,one 500gb hard drive 7200 RMP i think its the samsung one ,one dvd drive thats all

and will my PSU work good whit the i7 gtx260 and the corsair 6gb of ram?


i also want to ask when i get the i7 i will be probably overclocking it to 3.8ghz and can u tell me if i overclock it will it still work good?

I have 4x 120's on my rad, a pump, a 60mm on the NB, a 40mm on the Mosfet, 2x 640 gig HD's and I run my 930 at 4.0 with my GTX260 overclocked as well, I use a 550 watt 41 amp ( 4 x 18a 12v rails ) Gigabyte psu.
Yes, your power supply should work fine as long as it's not defective.

CM has put forth a mixed bag of both decent and not so decent psu's, your's is from one of the better line's.

well im not asking the Exact Amprange that the 8pin cpu connector consumes i am asking like maybe 14amps to 19? or does it even consume 19 or less i dont want the exact answer,if you dont know it okay

Overclocking to 4.0 would put you in the 13-15 amp range, when the chip is being stressed.

right so it leaves me 6 to 4 amps from any of the 12 volt rails that is being used by the cpu.
