Help choosing new GPU setup.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Not in a hurry.

BUDGET RANGE: Price is not much of an problem.

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Mostly gaming. I play Aion the most. Also have Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, most of the COD series etc.

I also want to get into video editing.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Currently I have a superclocked edition of the Nvidia GTX 260. It just isint close to cutting it.

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: Going to be building a whole new system. So i can get whatever is needed.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I like newegg but am more than willing to discover better places.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN:
USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: No prefrence. just want the best.

OVERCLOCKING: I can have it overclocked if need be.

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: If needed yes.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: I use two monitors. Main one is a 22 inch at 1680 x 1050. Second is a 20 inch at 1600 x 900. I play games on the main monitor and just use the second to browse internet etc.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Basicly I am looking to build a new system. I want to be able to run Aion which uses the CryEngine at max settings and have high fps. Also want to be able to record myself playing with FRAPS etc. I also want to get into video editing. My current system is a HP Pavilion I got around 2007. Has a C2D @ 2.5 ghz, 6 gigs of memory, 500 gig HD, I replaced the GPU with the superclocked GTX 260 and the power supply with a nice PC Power and cooling around 600W.

My current PC just wont cut it at all. I get very low FPS around 20 - 40 and when I try to record the game it drops to 4-8 FPS which is unplayable. It just wont handle video editing either.

I want to be able to do this powerfully. Price I am not worried about.

Would a single GPU be better for me? Any help is amazing.

  1. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Do you want to build a whole new system? Or just get a new mobo, processor, and graphics card? For about 1k you could get a massive increase with a LGA 1366 mobo, i7 950, and SLI 460s.

    Proof:
    3-way SLI LGA 1366 mobo for $270

    i7 950 3.06ghz for $300

    2x GTX 460 1GB for $380 after rebate (beats a single 480)

Or for another $180 you could upgrade those 460s to a couple 470s...

  2. Want to build an entirely new system for around 2 to 4 thousand dollars for this use.

From a bit of digging it seems games like this are more CPU intensive than GPU intensive?

I also dont even know if Aion supports SLi or Xfire.

All I know is my current system is far underpowered.

I load the game and get 20 fps. Try and record anything and it drops to around 4-5.

I want to be at 70+ FPS while recording.
  3. Yes, Aion supports SLI and CrossFire.

Okay well at that price point you can go quite big.

    Here's my recommendations:

    Motherboard 299.98

    Processor 999.98

    Graphics card 1 599.99

    Graphics card 2 599.99

    Power Supply 299.99

    Case 199.99

    SSD 1 276.00

    HDD 1 189.99

    HDD 2 189.99

    Optical Drive 1 139.99

    Optical Drive 2 19.99

    Ethernet Accelerator 109.99

    Total cost is $3925.79

Only thing better than this would be with 4x 5970's + water cooling for the cpu...
