So, what do you guys think would be the best upgrade I could do to my config. (without having to pay too much or changing too much different hardware...)

Thank you !

More about updating system
  1. First thing to do is to upgrade to 4GB RAM, and OCing the CPU.

Then maybe get a new GPU like a HD5770, maybe even a GTX460. Or if your PSU is beefy enough, another 8800GTS for SLI is a cheap yet robust solution.
  2. Eh, you're looking at 2GB of ram and a new GPU at least, probably a new CPU as that 6420 is low end. A new build might make sense depending on whether you can OC it or not.

    What's your budget?
  3. well, as both of you said, one cheap way of upgrading my system would certainly be to get 2GB ram (4gb total). I could try to OC my CPU a bit + buying another 8800 GTS (640mb version) which is only about 80$... Would I be fine with my Power Supply? It's a cooler master rp-650 -extreme power of 650W ? Getting 2x1GB stick of ram + the 80$ GPU would not cost much. Do you think that switching to an SLI setup would be fine or would I really have to get a new GPU ?

After that, if I see that I still don't have enough juice, I could change my CPU (which one would you recommand?)

    Thanks !
  4. I also want to get a new 120mm fan to add at the front of my case. Is there really a difference between all of these fans or can I simply take the cheapest one ?

  5. anyone there ?
  6. On the fan, look for the CFM ratings, higher it is, the more air it moves. The CM R4s are an affordable choice, but the cheapest generic should do the job fine
  7. ok great, thanks....The main thing I need to know now is if I would have enough power with my 650W cooler master for 2x8800 (640mb) GTS OC version!?

    Thanks again
  8. Sorry, I edited in my previous post, Ill post it here:

The 8800GTS should be bought for $50, maybe even as low as $30, $80 is a ripoff.

The PSU isn't the best, it should work as a GTS SLI uses ~400W for your setup, but on yor PSU only 430W is really available and might be cutting it a bit to close.
  9. ok good, how do I know that I only have 430W available ??

And are you sure 80$ is too much ? it's 80 Canadian though...I don't know if this forum is Canadian or American...cause this is really the cheapest price I have seen...for a used one ! My 8800 GTS is not the 320mb version, it's the 640mb and it's the OC version also....Maybe I am not looking at the right place ???
