Help please

I am COMPLETELY confused here!

I have a main pc and a netbook. No router or anything, and dialup. I want to hook the two together to share files.

I have a crossover ethernet cable and have run the windows network setup wizard on both computers, and nothing.

Can someone assume that i am ignorant and stupid ( ! ) and give me basic instructions on how to lan these two together, please.

Hmm... maybe go through this first... if it doesn't clear things up let me know some details of what you've done and what errors you're seeing and we'll go from there.
