Upgrading my CPU

Hi guys, I'm thinking about a bit of an upgrade to my machine, specifically the CPU but I'm not sure what I should get because I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to hardware.

Here are my specs:

Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66GHz
Yorkfield 45nm Technology
RAM
8.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (5-5-5-31)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5N-D (Socket 775)
Graphics
W2343 @ 1920x1080
SyncMaster @ 1680x1050
1024MB GeForce GTX 285 (BFG Tech)
1024MB GeForce GTX 285 (XFX Pine Group)
SLI Enabled
Hard Drives
488GB Western Digital WDC WD50 00AACS-00ZUB SCSI Disk Device (IDE)
488GB Western Digital WDC WD50 00AAKS-00A7B SCSI Disk Device (IDE)

What's the fastest CPU i can put in my machine? Here's my power supply too...

  1. Hrmmm...

Well, the performance seems a little sluggish. I dunno. Maybe it's just me. :)
  2. Overclock it as Dipanker says, this might help.-

Systems always seem to get slower its usually as you get used to them.

In which games? Have you tried downloading fraps to check out your frames per second in game? What resolution and settings? Does your task manager appear to be showing all cores that the game can use maxxed out? (minimize the game after playing for a bit with the task manager open and check out the graph)
