alright. thanks for all the help so far guys.

lastly, no one wants to persuade me to a gtx 460 instead? i will most likely use 1 card for a while, then maybe xfire/sli later.

Since your going with the AMD, SLI would be cut off if you went with the GTX 460 endless u got the SLI hack for it which I have been reading isnt very fun :(  Stick with the 5850 you'll be good for a while

Everything is compatible right? Just want to double check as this is my first build.

Having some issues with downloading the memory QVL.

Yes everything is compatible, DO NOT USE QVL's they are inaccurate and its only what companies test. :)  I would go for a 5850 for crossfire.
