Hi
I player the original UT at lunch during my lunchbreak with about 10
other guys.
I'm playing on a Dell 2.8ghz 512, ATI Radeon x550 machine...
It's worked fine for about 9 months, then all of a sudden a
weird effect came in last Wednesday.
I've slowed down!
I now run at about 1/2 the speed of the other players.
The frame rate is still perfect but it effects everything.
The intro has slowed down too.
When I jump I jump slow... my translocator moves slowly through the
air...
all in all slow!

I've tried reinstalling the installation, to no avail.
I've updated the ATI drivers, no difference..
It's weird! As it's a work machine i can't pull it apart too
much.
If I run a practice session i can put my gameplay up to about 150% and
then it's nearly normal... but obviously running
on the lunchtime server i'm at a significant disadvantage!

Any ideas? :-(
I'm apart of a five a side CTF team and Deathmatch game so this is
quite detremental. Looks like I may have to go back to work!

Cheers
T

Laptop or desktop?

What did you do to your computer that day, or the day before? And what
did the sysadmin do?

Try moving ~/.loki/ut to another location, and try again. If you're on
windows, move ut/System/*.ini to some other spot, and try again.

Hi
1.Desktop Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading.
2. Wish I knew! I don't remember changing anything since then.
About a month ago we upgraded to Active Directory across the network
so Admin have done all sorts of stuff, however the other machines are
all still fine, including one identical to mine.
3. I've tried a total reinstall removing the previous installation
so nothing to do with the INI files....

Cheers
T
I'm guessing somethings got a clock somewhere that isn't ticking right.
I've not got any other Games I can test on it here. Tiz strange.

Hi! If you reply directly below some quoted text, it'll be clearer to
what you're referring to. Just a hint.

Hmmm... weirdness.

Did you really make sure all .ini files were gone after you
uninstalled?

Try the .ini trick anyway. UT stores your computer's speed there, and
removing the right .ini will get it to re-evaluate the speed.

Sorry am using Google Groups from work and it aint to clever (least i
can't use it :-)
Thanks for your help, I'll give it another go at the end of the day.
I just clicked uninstall from Control Panel and then reinstalled to a
seperate directory regardless, but i'll give it another go and do a
decent search to make sure nothings left
behind.
Cheers
T.

I think Mozilla Thunderbird does Usenet too. It'll be a lot better ;-)

Ok, let us know how it works out.

That's always a good idea.

Users with laptops often report that the game runs too fast. Their
problem is the "speed step" or other power-saving function that
mis-reports the actual speed of the processor. It's a fairly common
complaint with laptop users and the cure is to turn off any
power-saving functions or to put the actual clockspeed of the system
in the UT shortcut by adding -cpuspeed=xxxx to the end of the
"Target" line. So in your case it would look something like:
C:\UT\System\Unrealtournament.exe -cpuspeed=2800

(I don't have UT installed, so I don't know what the shortcut target
looks like)

Anyway, it's worth a shot since it sound like UT is confused about the
speed of your system.

Or it could be something else. ;-)

Good luck!

Could this possibly be the cause?

UT doesn't know about hyperthreading, but it DOES have huge problems
with speed stepping on laptops and desktops using power management.
Play-speed issues are usually down to UT taking a CPU speed reading on
startup too quickly and the OS not giving 100% CPU to that process.

Suggestions:

0. Remove all spyware and scan for adware and viruses.
1. Run UT in Compatibility mode for 98.
2. Turn off power management in Control Panel.
3. Turn off power management in BIOS.
4. Any way to turn off hyperthreading temporarily?
5. Arm-wavingly suggest check firewall.

Cheers Everyone.
The problem eventually solved itself!

I think it was my mouse!
I've got two Mice plugged in
a Ms Intelli mouse I use for work (UT)
and a Logitech Cordless mouse for Pleasure(Coding, documents emails).

Any ho the logitech one ran low on batterys, so I replaced the
batteries
in it and wallah alls good again!

I'm guessing the computer was constantly polling the mouse to check it
was still there...
"You there?"
"...."
"Hello?"
"Yeh I'm Here"
"You sure"
"..."
"You there?"
"Yeh I'm here"
:-)
Only thing I think it can be, because nothing else changed, that fit in
with the pattern.

Any ho Games on! Cheers guys!

I use a trackball for everyday use, and a mouse for gaming. When not
gaming, the mouse is on a stack of papers and stuff off to the side.
Occasionally, it will slip and move but I won't notice. Except that my
pointer goes off in some wacky direction. Whoah! Oh yeah, the
mouse... :)
