Hello,
if I take a intel core i7-950 (supports 1066mhz) with 8gb of ddr3 ram at 1800mhz will it work, also if it works will it give me added performance over 1066mhz. I do not want to over clock anything. Also I have seen pc with that processor and speed, how do they make it work??

Hi fil1p, Welcome to THW.

First, you do not want to buy a 8GB kit for an i7 CPU/x58 Mobo, you either want to buy a 3x2GB kit or a 4x3GB kit, because it uses DDR3 tipple channel RAM, so you always want to get RAM in sets of three. If you buy only a pair it will run in DDR3 dual channel and you will lose the performance you are paying for with the i7 CPU/x58 Mobo.

It depends on your Motherboard if it supports 1800MHz RAM or not, being a x58 it probably does, but most boards will require you to OC the CPU to use those speeds, the mobo specs will say "1800(OC)". As for the difference between 1066MHz and 1800MHz it is less than ~5%.
