hello,

i was thinking about upgrading my notebook memory to 16GB. Although i am trying to figure out which configuration i should choose. i know for a fact that it has *4 slots of 4GB max on each which is expandable to 16GB (4x4gb, DDR3 1333/1600**)

in the user guide for my notebook it says that:

*Note: 4 SO-DIMMs are only supported by quad core CPU; Dual core CPUs support two SO-DIMMs maximum.

**Note: 1600MHz memory modules are only supported by quad core CPUs to a maximum of two SO-DIMMS

NOTEBOOK NFO
Intel HM65 Chipset
Core i7-2720QM

so the problem is can i choose to buy 4x4GB 1600MHz DDR3 or because of the NOTE** that i can't since its maximum of 2 SO-DIMMs.

thus meaning i should rather choose 4x4GB 1333MHz DDR3 since the 1600MHz only supports 2?

i don't know i'm a bit confused.

Solution
From the info you have provided, it does look like it is going to be a max of two 1600 MHz memory sticks with that processor. You can most probably put four sticks but they all will work at a max frequency of 1333 MHz. IMO, don't spend unnecessarily for high speed ram for notebooks. Those CPU's can barely be overclocked.

so based upon your answer if i still were to purchase a maximum of 16GB, should i buy 4x4gb 1600MHz or 4x4GB 1333MHz and all of them as single or 2 dual channels (4)?

well im not going to buy it for sure. but if i do...
