  1. That velociraptor is both slower and a significantly worse buy than the Samsung F3 1TB@75$.

Do you feel comfortable dropping down to the Haf 922? Or even Antec 900? This combo deal is very attractive for your price range. Antec 900 is a nice case, and the XFX PSU is significantly nicer than that Corsair. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.492896

You really do need 4GB of ram for gaming.

    This GTX 460 is 25$ cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600007323%20600007779%20600062521&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&CompareItemList=48|14-127-510^14-127-510-TS%2C14-130-570^14-130-570-V01

The P55-USB3 is an old mobo, any of these would be better: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&CompareItemList=280|13-130-292^13-130-292-TS%2C13-130-298^13-130-298-TS%2C13-157-193^13-157-193-TS%2C13-130-291^13-130-291-TS%2C13-131-621^13-131-621-TS

EDIT: JUST SAW YOUR MONITOR RESOLUTION. YOU NEED A NEW ONE. Double check to make sure it's only 1280, and if it is come back for either major component cuts (1280 is playable on a 5770+tricore AMD) or for a new monitor+different components.

Thanks for the tips. I changed the setup around a bit, I made all of your changes except for the video card, it is $25 cheaper but its got that 20$ off SC2 that I was definitely getting anyway, unless Gigabyte doesn't make as good quality cards as the two you suggested, which in that case I would switch it.

*SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    *PQI TURBO 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop
*MSI P55A-G55 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
    *XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750W ATX12V v2.2 / ESP12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular ...
*Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I also forgot to mention that I honestly don't care about 'bling', hehe. As long as it runs good, it could be the ugliest pc ever, hah.

As for the monitor, yeah its a 5 year old Samsung 1080x1024. I wasn't really planning on switching mine out, since getting the new components plus the monitor seems out of my price range, plus in the same room as my pc I have a flatscreen tv that I thought I could just hook up a vga cable and play games on it. : )

I'm still hitting $1050 at the moment, though with that combo you suggested it comes to $1010. If you really think though that I should cut down on them because of the monitor, maybe I should try that, if you'de like to give me a few suggestions. As long as I can play new games on medium-high settings and having a good fast pc that's what I was going for. Thank you!!
  3. That's a DDR3 mobo, you'll need DDR3. On the plus side, it's faster and typically had for the same price or less as DDR2.

What resolution is the flat-panel screen? If it's 720p you only need an ATI 5770 for either monitor.

Yes its 720p. Maybe I should switch then, I've heard the Radeon's don't perform as well as the new geforce ones, they are definitely cheaper for sure. In that case would I also need to switch the processor/mobo, I thought that Radeons get along with amd's better.
  5. Don't perform as well, but still for 1240*1080 as your max even the 5770 is overkill. Radeons work fine with any CPU.

In fact, I'd probably get an Athlon ii x4 635 and downstep everything about this build. That is no demanding resolution.

Damn, looks like I gotta go back to the drawing board then. I mean I don't wanna go so low that I won't be able to play the newst games, right now I'm working with a 5 year old store bought Presario, its a piece of junk hehe. Thanks for all your suggestions, it would have really sucked for me to spend all that money and not get it all out of it. If you have any more feel free.

  8. Can anyone give any thoughts on that build, also could anyone recommend a relatively cheap wireless keyboard/mouse that would have good reception being used about 10 feet away from the pc?
