How to get my computer to recognize the files on my external hard drive

Hi, I recently added some files on my external from another computer but when I plug my external drive into my computor, it recognises the drive by it says the "folder is empty". I know my information is on the external but I cannot see any files. What can I do?

First test the external drive with "SeaTools for Windows" from here:
http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

It could be starting to fail and therefore losing files. Testing the drive will tell you if there are any problems with it.
