My friend across the street which is about 100 feet or so. we are using a Belkin 802.11g was not getting a signal through the trialer then we put it through the window under a closed in carport and I usually get a fair signal yet sometimes it hangs in the poor range. Is there a way to boost the signal without buying a booster maybe more homemade? I have a Hp with Windows 7 I am not sure if that helps.

I'd experiment with different channels -- the frequencies they represent work better or worse according to your environs.

If you have detachable antennas you could try a directional antenna which usually also boosts the signal
