Formatting an sd card

im trying to format my sd card but when i click on start,it start to format but when it reach before the end in 1 or 2 sec it says:
windows was unable to complete format

1- Clean the contacts of your card with a soft cloth. If dirt is visible on the contacts and cannot be cleaned with a cloth, use some alcohol or a pencil eraser.

2- Google "sdformatter" and download the tool. Use it to format the card

If these 2 options do not work, your card is most probably damaged.
