Hey I was wondering if you guys would recommend the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition or the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T for a gaming pc. Price isn't and issue.

Also, I was wondering what the best possible graphics card configuration would be with either of those cards. Would a single high-end card be better than two with xfire?

Thanks!

For a no budget issue, I'll recommend going for an i5 760 setup.. If you wish to stick with AMD then surely opt for the 965 over the 1090T.. As for the video card setup, sticking with a single card is always preferrable as multi card setups, be it SLI or Crossfire, exhibit driver issues with certain games..

What do you mean when you say the "gimmicky" x6?

Why is the 15-760 better than the AMD processors?

X4, is more than enough for todays games and for atleast 3 years or more, most games now only use 2 cores at best.

Save the ££ on a X6 for more ram and better GPU.

X4 Black also overclocks well with good cooling which will benefit games.

most games today are fine with 2-3 cores. so you wil have the exact same results with a Phenom II x4 as you would a x6 at the same speed. in fact a faster II x4 will outperform a slower II x6 in gaming. there is little every day consumer software out there that really needs four cores other then video encoding.

AMD needs a CPU that can compete against the higher performance cores of the i5 & i7 so they decided to launch the phenom II x6, six slow cores (compared to intel) and little market demand for that many cores.
