Hard Drive Problem

Hello, I hope someone can help me.
I have recently been having problems with my Toshiba HDDR500E04X 500GB hard drive. It registers and opens when i plug it in but when i try to access certain photo folders it stops loading the previews and the little blue light on the hard drive only comes on every 10 seconds or so. I know that i should have a double back up but stupidly never got around to it and so this is my only copy of certain files. I really hope somebody can help.
