I was wondering if someone could help me out here. I heard here and there that the actiontec router that Verizon provides me for my home networking actually has poor Wan to Lan performance. I currently have a 25/25 connection with them. Is anyone out there using a different router and just configuring the actiontec to be a dumb pipe i.e. turning off the wifi/firewall/DHCP and so on, and and getting better performance letting something like a Linksys router do a better job?
Would there be any drawbacks to doing this?
