Hdd doesnt work

ive got an hdd problem

when i boot my pc it doesnt spin up or do anything like its not plugged in

it is a western digital IDE HDD if that helps

  1. Sounds like you need a new hdd? If it's an ide drive, it must be fairly old.
  2. if its not spinning at all, remove the drive from the chassis, and gently shake it (in the direction the platters move), some older drives need help getting started. if it does spin up, backup any data you need and replace it. i've also had success with a light tap with a rubber mallet (to the side of the drive, not directly on top or bottom).
  3. well its 250g
    and i was going to replace it for and 80g

    is there anything i can do to fix it?
