would I be able to plug my PS3 into the digital optical out on my mobo and get sound from computer so I can use my headphones? The reason why I ask is I just bought a new monitor but it does not have any speakers or audio out.

So basically what I want to do is PS3 optical out to PC optical out (heard somewhere that it can act as an "IN" also). If I have this wrong please inform me of a way to get sound from my PS3 to my headphones, while using my computer monitor.

:??:  Unless you explicitly have an optical audio in port, no. Some sound cards have an optical audio-in port, but I've never seen one on a motherboard.
