Grettings everyone.

I have an old Nvida 680i SLI motherboard and four sticks of Corsair CM2X1024-8888C4D. One of these sticks has failed, so I'm taking the opportunity to upgrade. My question to you is: what 2x2GB DDR2 memory is compatibile with the 680i?

I've searched Nvidia's site but I couldn't find anything.

Thank you most sincerely,

Judging from the two 680i SLI motherboard I found on newegg and after a quick glance at nvidia website, you will need to go for 240 pin ddr2 800mhz. I checked between Amazon and Newegg.. it looks like you're going to have to pay $45 for 2x2GB DDR2 800 MHz :(.

PNY $45

I purchased some G.Skill 2Gx2|GSK F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK R from Newegg yesterday. That's (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) which is faster than the A-Data, but slower than the Corsair's I have in there.

If I have to, I'm pretty sure I can force the memory speed down to 800. I think. Maybe. I dunno. If it doesn't work, I'll try the A-Data since they seem to have a heat sink and the others don't. I don't overclock, but the ambient temperature gets a bit warm so the more cooling I have the better.

If the G.Skill works, I'll post. I'll also get more and bring my system to 8GB so I don't feel like such a stoneage clown.

By the way, for anyone reading this from a Google search: I am running just fine with no DIMM in slot 0. The few notes I have found said never to do this, but the box has been up and running for more than 48 hours with no slot 0 DIMM.

To that one, lone, desperate Google searcher out there trying to find information on upgrading their 680i motherboard, here is what I've found.

The G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK works just fine with the Nvidia 680i SLI C55M55XECRB motherboard using default clock settings. I am currently running 4 sticks for a total of 8GB without problem, and am seeing faster times than I did with the old Corsair.

I have not monkeyed with over-clocking.

One other Google Search tag: This is a BFG Nvidia 680i.

Cheers,
Mad
