just guessing here .. but 2 cards trumps 1 card (in this case having 4 cores is better then 2) since ultimately you have the same amount of vram for the framebuffer

You can add 4 cards into that motherboard...

Since SLI is scaled better than CF then you will get more benefit from Nvidia cards.
2x GTX 470 or 2x GTX 480 are nice... :)

Which games and what resolution gaming are we discussing here.? Either of those setups is a massive overkill for a single 30" monitor gaming at its native resolution.. The Asus R3E is a great buy though..

It looks like you'll be good with a single 5970 2GB.. Don't get the Cosmos S though.. The HAF-X will be a better buy..
