How much of an upgrade would I end up with if I were to build a new PC with the following CPU:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Currently I have a desktop PC with a DualCore Intel Pentium D 840, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)

http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1838&p...

Base on the CPU I currently have I think I would get a major upgrade in CPU power if I were to build a new PC with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX but I would appreciate some feedback or opinions regarding this.

Thanks

CPU wise, it would be a HUGE upgrade. What will be your uses of the new system though?

Mostly gaming, I read in a Star Craft 2 benchmark test that was done on Tom's Hardware website that the AMD Phenom II X4 would handle anything SC2 could throw at the CPU, I had this other computer for a long time now, and I can tell now with the latest games that it seems like the CPU is struggling. I been able to play all games i tried with my old CPU, but it does feel now and then like im not getting the full effect.

Whats your full budget? The GPU matter alot in gaming, perhaps more than your CPU. So you would want to allocate more funds that way. But your CPU is definitely in need of an upgrade though, even a ~2.5Ghz Athlon X2 4800+ beats it handily.

This is what I'm looking to get from Newegg total comes to about $642.91 I'm willing to go as high as $700 or $800. But I think this should be good enought for what the kind of gaming I do.

Not a great build, take out that raptor, get a proper PSU and a better GPU. Perhaps drop the CPU down to a Phenom X2/3 if you have to.

Lemme see what I could work out.
