New system built on a small budget.

hi all,

im new to the forum so bare with me.

i was previously running this rig....

p4 3.4 ht ( oc'd at 3.7 )
3gb ddr 400mhz
200gb hdd -
2 x 160gb hdd's
bfgr6600gtoc 512mg graphics card
oem heast sinks etc.

it was fine for the 6 years of ownership, but started to bug the hell out of me due to not being able to do much with it gaming wise since 2008.

im currently unemployed and as such money is a huge limitation for me. i managed to get £200 together and this is what i bought......dont flame me to much! ....

E5300 2.6 dual core ( stock / not oc'd )
ASUS SKT-775 P5KPL-AM mobo ( supports quads too )
1 x 2gb pc2-6400 800mhz
1 x 1gb pc2-6400 800mhz
HD3870 512M GDDR4 PCI-E Graphics Card

was it all worth roughly £200? should i have saved more and gone for a bigger cpu? (like a quad) the only reason i upgraded really was to play gta 4, which i think will be with low settings with this rig? ( no i dont want and should / shall not get a ps3! pc all the way! )

for 200 quid, that's not bad.

I would have tried to see about a 4850 of gts 250 if possible as a slightly more modern GPU, but that should see you through for a while

Yeah, your ability to play most games will be determined by your GPU, not your CPU (for the most part).
