Forum Motherboards & Memory : Asus Asus P8Z68-V pro SSD/HDD problem

Hello,
I am building my computer and having one slight problem. I am using one SSD and one HDD, both SATA. The computer detects both on boot up and in the device manager, but when I go to access it in My Computer it's not there. I have enabled all SATA ports in the bios and still nothing. I've also switched cables around and tried connecting them too different SATA ports. Any ideas?

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

Please clarify 'My Computer it's not there'? If you are indeed accessing Windows 'Device Manager' then clearly you're booting into Windows. Use the Intel SATA Ports, if your SSD is SATA3 then use the SATA3 port closest to the MOBO's PCB, and the HDD, DVD, etc on the SATA2 ports.

If you cannot Boot into Windows then run Windows 7 (F8) recovery and choose Startup Repair option -> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US [...] -Windows-7

If the 'My Computer' icon is gone then -> http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/win [...] ows-vista/

If you can Boot into Windows and the SSD OS Drive 'disappears' occasionally then I would look at the registry, Start = 3 in AHCI is incorrect an loads the wrong drivers, it 'should be' Start = 0; see -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

Under AHCI they should look like this:

Apologies for not being clear enough.

I have Windows 7 installed on the SSD, and intend to use a second Western Digital hard drive as a media drive. When Windows boots up, the second hard drive isn't showing under My Computer. I see the SSD and the DVD drive, and nothing else. However, in the device manager, the HDD is there.

Did you format the 'Western Digital hard drive'? If not then you'll need to format it before it can be used.

If not here's a simple tutorial -> http://www.top-windows-tutorials.c [...] drive.html
