Using old hard drive in new build

I got a question, I am considering building my first pc and have located a barebones kit I like and it does not come with a hard drive and I am thinking about using my current hard drive from my Dell xps 400 its two 150gb hard drives i was going to use it so i could pay $40 for windows 8 pro upgrade because it is a budget build

any hard drive works in all systems, but what are you asking? i mean i would do it just to save myself a lot of money if i'm on a low budget.

i guess im wondering is something that old will work with a new motherboard

yes it will work if you want me to make sure for you then send me your new motherboard info and send me the info of the old hdd.
