USB Hubs

Hi guys, I'm trying to move the desktop tower to the other side of the room, and have the monitor and everything else remain in the same spot. Which means i'm going to need extension cords to connect the DVI display, audio, and all the USB devices. For USB devices such as mouse and keyboard, would usb hubs work? I would like to know if USB will be able to power those devices and are there any major delays.
