Uppgrade firmware seagate barracuda directly on nas

Do I have to insert the HDD into a PC to upgrade the firmware or how could I perform this directly on my QNAP TS-209? Reason for upgrade is that the brand new ST2000DM001-1CH1CC24 is really unstable and I get different failure status for one disk at a time on my RAID1 config on my NAS, then I have to re-initialize and mount and so on. I hope the firmware upgrade could solve this issue hopefully.
