Poor Audio Quality Windows 7

I just built a new system and i'm currently using the onboard via audio sound card. The problem that I am having is that my sound quality isn't very good. The best way I can describe it is that the audio sounds kind of hollow. For example, video game gun fire sounds more like cap guns firing. I am only using a basic L/R speaker setup but they are the same speakers that I used with my old xp machine and I never had any problems there. This is my fist time using win 7 so I am hoping someone can point in the right direction as to how to try and improve my audio quality. Thanks.

  1. Right now I'm using the driver that came with the Asus P7P55D mobo. Before I started messing around with the drivers I just wanted to see if there were any audio settings that should be changed first.
