External drive

hello,

good day. finally plugged in, with the usb cable and power supply but not with the firewire ( i dont have it) my maxtor onetouch 4 plus 500 gb external drive. it was installed in my windows 7 pc. it is in the control panel devices and printers but i cant seem to open it. its not in the my computer devices with removable storage.



in the control panel the drivers are updated and it says the device is working properly. again i cant seem to open and use it.

go to control panel>administrative tools>computer management> then Disk Management on the left. If it shows in there it needs to be reformatted. You could also try a live cd of Ubuntu then run Gparted

rtlarson3, thank you for the reply. i tried it but after clicking (disc management) on initiaze the disc, it says the media is write protected. will appreciate your help. will try later the ubuntu alternative and give you feedback.
