So I am putting together a new core i5-2500K system with the Asrock P67 Extreme4 motherboard...and was wondering whether a G Skill Ripjaws 2x2gb Kit or a Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb Kit will be a better way to go. The price, strangely, is within $20 of each other over at NewEgg.com.

I'm liking the $64 8gb Kit......but, wondering if this is cheaper ram ...and maybe I should go with the G Skill ram instead.

Dunno...what does everybody think?

8GB is enough for anything you would be doing day to day. I would go with the Corsair. Its very good ram, well put together imo and comparable to ripjaws, for the price I would go with the 8gb.

The Sandy CPU is best suited for 1.50v RAM the F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM 2x2GB is 1.65v RAM so it puts unnecessary strain on the IMC, and the CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 2x4GB is 1.50v and for gaming DDR3 1600 CAS 8/9 @ 1.50 AND 8GB is the Sandy Bridge 'Sweet-Spot'. Therefore, the clear choice between the two sets is the CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9.

My favorite set is the F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445 last week on sale for $60!

You are paying extra for a low-CAS kit with the G.Skill. That's why the price is so near the 8GB Corsair kit price.

Corsair and G.Skill are both excellent quality memory manufacturers. You can't go wrong with either one. However, as jaquith stated, the low-CAS G.Skill kit you linked is 1.65v and not recommended for Sandy Bridge CPUs.

If you can purchase by August 8th, I recommend this killer deal: G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) 1866 CL9 1.5v kit for $65 with promo code.

Otherwise, I normally recommend 8GB (2x4GB) 1600 CL9 1.5v kits of:
Corsair Vengeance
G.Skill Ripjaws
G.Skill Ripjaws X
G.Skill Sniper
