Hi everyone, I want to know if a GTS 250 512 mb would be enough to run Starcraft 2 in 1080p at ultra settings. My cpu is a intel duo core e7300 @2.66 ghz, 4 gb ram, 750 gb harddrive. Would the GTS 250 be a good choice for this game as i mainly plan to only play blizzard titles in the future. If not, what graphics card do you guys recommend me getting. I'm also considering the hd 4870 which is supposed to be a significantly faster card but loses the benchmark battles to the gts 250 in starcraft 2 according to multiple websites.. Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

I think the GTS 250 1 GB should be good enough. The HD5770 (DX11 version of the HD4870) is even better. I highly recommend that you get the GTX 460 1 GB video card if you plan to play at Ultra settings in 1080p. Make sure however, that you get a power supply higher than 500 watts to be able to run the HD5770 or the GTX 250/460.

GTS 250<HD4870<HD5770<GTX 460

interesting, because according to numerous sites like legionhardware and techspot the gts 250 performs better than the ati hd 4870, 5750, and is roughly on par with the hd 4890 and hd 5770 in starcraft 2 even though it loses most of the benchmark battles against the generally faster card (hd 4870)

I'm pretty sure his reasoning was not targeted at SC2 specifically. We generally choose are systems for all the games we have and will have in the future.

If you are looking at SC2 only, it sound slike you already have your answer in the benchmarks you've read.

I have an E8500 cpu and a 4870HD (512mb).

Im running SC2 at 50-60fps in multiplayer with everything to ultra in 1920*1200, however in single player I often dip below 30fps - and no AA for the 4000 series yet (!!!). I think the limited memory is my main problem running at these settings. I'm in fact considering a 460gtx 1gb myself, but I'm not sure if the upgrade is worth it.
