Will a dvi to vga converter work on hd4870 for connecting the vga CRT monitor?
recently i switched to new system with biostar 785 and 1090t.the mobo is having both dvi and vga connector. But when i try to connect the crt monitor through the dvi port of mobo using the adapter ,the screen goes black and appears as shut down.
so will i face the same problem when i plug in my hd4870 (not plugged in as i dont have a good psu currently) and connect the crt through the adapter?
Please guide

Well, supposedly a dvi to vga converter will work fine for an lcd monitor but will not function with a crt monitor. I tested my HD4850 with a dvi to vga converter and had no display but when I used it on an lcd monitor it worked.

This may seem like a very late answer but I've happen to come across this right now. Even if a dvi to vga converter is used, a crt monitor will not be supported. It must be vga to vga for a crt monitor. One way in which my HD4850 with only 2 dvi connector's worked for me was by passing the vga through my 3dfx voodoo2.

I purchased the converter and it worked fine for me and I am still using a vga acer lcd monitor through a dvi to vga adapter over 5770..

I was previously using a CRT monitor and that worked fine too with the dvi to vga adapter.. :)
