You can reuse the DVD-writer?

ASRock M3A770DE + Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...
AMD Athlon II X3 445 + HIS H577FK1GD Radeon HD 5770
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB + NZXT GAMMA
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...
CORSAIR 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-500

$502.92 after the rebate.

What case does she have, can you reuse that?

the dvd drive i can reuse

the tower case has no name but its not a tower from like dell /hp its a after market one its super old but i think it can work
it has two fan spots on back two more on the front and one on the side
8 pci slots 4 cd drive bays 4 hd bays
it has a 300watt dynex psu in it. but that prolly wont work

How about going with a dual core processor? From what you said in your op your wife's computer needs are pretty light. The following is what I came up with using the current Newegg combos, also assuming you will reuse your computer case and dvd drive.

OCZ Fatal1ty 550W PSU + Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB hard drive
AMD Athlon II X2 cpu + Radeon 5670 GPU
ASRock 870 motherboard + Windows 7 64bit OS (leaves you some room for upgrading in the future)
Kingston 2GB RAM

Total price before shipping and rebates = $466.93

If you add in the case and dvd combo mosox listed above the price is $509.91 before shipping and rebates.

im starting to get overwhelmed with pc parts lol. ill just flip a coin and choose one of your builds

it didnt even cross my mind about (leaves you some room for upgrading in the future) with this i can do over a bit time.
