Help with new build plz

Hello all im trying to build a pc for my wife. all she needs it do is run farmville and world of warcraft and a bit of web browsing.

i look at toms $400 dollar pc it looks good but some replys were diss'ing it. i think it would work for what he needs for gaming.

i use most of the $400 build

ASRock M3A770DE AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD2500AAJS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100273L Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX

COOLER MASTER Elite 460 RS-460-PSAR-J3 460W ATX12V V2.31 Power Supply

Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT12864BA1339

AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.1GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor ADX445WFGMBOX

think the only thing i changed was the CPU and video card. it came out to $411 was hopeing to save the last $100 for windows7.

my max budget is $500 if theres anything wrong here plz tell me or if theres some thing i can improve with a few bucks.

or if this system will suck with what she needs to run on it.

thanks for the help.

  1. For $400 you wont be able to do much better than that.
  2. what she has now

    amd athlon 2800+ 2.1Ghz

    128 ati 9700 AGP < i think its called

    MB pc chips m848a

    very old 80 gigs H-D

    old 300 watt PSU

all very old parts lol so im thinking to just buy a new starter kit just to get it up and running, than to try and upgrade this old mother board . ive been looking its getting more and more intimidating as i look into building or upgrading a pc

    You can reuse the DVD-writer?

    ASRock M3A770DE + Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    AMD Athlon II X3 445 + HIS H577FK1GD Radeon HD 5770
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB + NZXT GAMMA
    CORSAIR 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-500

    $502.92 after the rebate.

What case does she have, can you reuse that?
  4. the dvd drive i can reuse

the tower case has no name but its not a tower from like dell /hp its a after market one its super old but i think it can work
it has two fan spots on back two more on the front and one on the side
8 pci slots 4 cd drive bays 4 hd bays
it has a 300watt dynex psu in it. but that prolly wont work
  5. Your current mobo is standard so it will work and you can get a better PSU:
That RAM isn't in stock now, you can get this one instead:

LE: What's her monitor resolution, maybe that video card is overkill for a small monitor and you can get a cheaper one.
  6. monitor is hp w1907 10 " tall 16" wide 19" diagonal 1440 by 900 thats as far as it will let me move the slider over

im at lost when it comes to matching video card to monitor
  7. The bigger the resolution, the more powerful graphics card needed. For that resolution and for that kind of games, a HD 5670 would be good enough.

That would make room for a new optical and a case with USB/audio on the front panel but as I said you can reuse the old ones or one of them.
  8. How about going with a dual core processor? From what you said in your op your wife's computer needs are pretty light. The following is what I came up with using the current Newegg combos, also assuming you will reuse your computer case and dvd drive.

    OCZ Fatal1ty 550W PSU + Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB hard drive
AMD Athlon II X2 cpu + Radeon 5670 GPU
ASRock 870 motherboard + Windows 7 64bit OS (leaves you some room for upgrading in the future)
    Kingston 2GB RAM

Total price before shipping and rebates = $466.93

If you add in the case and dvd combo mosox listed above the price is $509.91 before shipping and rebates.
  9. im starting to get overwhelmed with pc parts lol. ill just flip a coin and choose one of your builds

it didnt even cross my mind about (leaves you some room for upgrading in the future) with this i can do over a bit time.
