I7 Warranty?

So I'm sure this is a noob question but... do I have to register my new cpu with intel or do they just use the retailers receipt for warranty period? I am having a hell of a time getting info on this.

If you bought a boxed unit, CPU and cooler, you have a three year warranty. Just keep the box end plate with the serial number and the receipt... If you bought an OEM unit, no box or cooler, you have a 90 day warranty...

Thanks for your replies. It is a boxed unit so I guess I'm good. I can't believe how difficult it was to find info regarding this, not even on intels site under warranty info or in faq... maybe I just missed something. Anywhos, thanks.
